Safran is a world leader in aerospace equipment and systems for commercial, regional and business aircraft, as well as helicopters and space applications. We are part of the internationally operating Safran Group. We currently employ 60 people in our office in Wessling, close to Munich. We have consistently prepared our innovative products with the help of our application-based research approach.
Now with the arrival of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the aircraft cabin environment, work is needed to identify which network protocol and technologies would be most suitable to support our applications' needs for the next generation of products. In this internship, the student will define criteria and develop tools to test feature parity, resource consumption and latency (among other to be defined elements) between protocol implementations.
The objective of this internship is to design and implement a benchmarking suite for application-layer network protocols, to compare protocols between themselves as well as different implementations of the same protocol. Responsibilities includes:
- Identification of suitable protocols to be tested and their relevant implementations,
- Identification of the diverse testing criteria to compare the protocols/implementations,
- Implementation of the software framework to test each criterion and provide test results,
- Define test scenarios to explore specific features of different protocols and their use case in the cabin environment.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master Degree program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/engineering or Software Engineering or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of the OSI model and the TCP/IP stack
- Good knowledge of at least one transport/application level protocol (e.g. TCP or HTTP)
- Knowledge of either C/C++ or Python
- Advanced proficiency in GNU/Linux environment
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to work autonomously
- Working-level proficiency in English
