CultureWorks is the holding company, management and development platform for culture, experience and hospitality brands. Our portfolio consists of kindred companies with intellectually curious audiences, who are shaping the future of how we gather, work, connect, and experience the arts together.
Anything but an ordinary museum, in 2010 Fotografiska was founded in Stockholm and in late 2019 opened its newest outpost in a treasured, historic landmark building in NYC’s Flatiron District. The iconic NYC and Stockholm locations are complemented by expansion in Tallinn, and a forthcoming Berlin museum, in addition to several other prospective projects in the expansion pipeline. Fotografiska’s goals both intellectually and culturally are wide ranging: to inspire a more conscious world through the power of photography, to bring people together, raise awareness and create positive change. The Museum showcases the greatest photographers, whether they’re emerging artists or already established internationally.
Fotografiska | Berlin
Slated to open in the summer of 2022, Fotogfrafiska Berlin will house 5,500 square meters in the historic Kunsthaus Tacheles building on Oranienburger Straße in the Mitte. The architects Herzog amp; de Meuron have been assigned to carry out a renovation to the cultural heritage site.
The Role
Fotografiska Berlin’s Director of Exhibitions is, above all, responsible for choosing, planning and curating Berlin exhibitions to ensure a high local relevance across cultural institutions, helping the museum as it further establishes itself in the European market. The DoE, as a part of the Global Exhibitions Committee, will likewise provide input and advise on global exhibition selection. With a mandate to uphold and highlight Fotografiska’s core values of innovation, inclusion, inspiration, sustainability and relevance through exhibitions, the Director of Exhibitions oversees planning and the implementation of all the Museum walls and continues to bring Fotografiska’s offering to forefront of the art world.
Equally, the Director of Exhibitions is a public face and ambassador for the Museum and should expect to work regularly with our established and experienced leadership team in Berlin and internationally. Reporting into the Vice President of Global Exhibitions, the Director will roll up into the General Manager for all operational duties and liase with the Executive Director and international leadership teams frequently; the Director has a strong presence within and outside the business.
The Director of Exhibitions is expected to graciously manage and innovate through ambiguity and will need to be excited by taking on greenfield projects. We are seeking a leader who is committed to the long-term development of Fotografiska as an internationally coveted home for artists and photographers.
